Frozen 3 Teases New Villain Whose Powers Rival Elsa’s

Max Global: Frozen 3 has delivered its biggest story tease yet. During Disney’s D23 2026 Entertainment Showcase in Anaheim, the studio unveiled new animation from the long-awaited sequel and introduced a mysterious new villainess whose powers, Disney says, rival Elsa’s. The reveal raises the stakes for Elsa, Anna, and their friends while giving fans their clearest official indication yet of the third film’s direction.

The footage brought back Anna, Elsa, Olaf, Kristoff, and Sven, but its biggest surprise came at the end, when a previously unseen woman emerged as a potential new threat. Disney has not revealed the character’s name, background, or voice actor. Reuters also reported that the first-look footage teased a new female antagonist whose identity and voice actor remain undisclosed, leaving her identity as one of the biggest unanswered questions surrounding the movie.

Frozen 3 Villain Could Be Elsa’s Most Powerful Challenge Yet

Disney’s wording is important. The company did not say the new villainess is stronger than Elsa, and it did not say she has ice powers. Instead, Disney said the newly shown animation “hinted at a new villainess whose powers rival those of Elsa’s.”

That distinction makes the reveal more intriguing without confirming exactly what abilities the character possesses. Elsa has remained the franchise’s most prominent magical figure since the original Frozen, while Frozen 2 expanded the mythology around her powers and her connection to the elemental spirits.

A rival with comparable abilities could push the story into new territory, especially if the conflict forces Elsa to face a threat she cannot simply overpower. For now, however, any claim that the character is an “ice queen,” an “evil Elsa,” or a returning figure from the earlier films goes beyond what Disney has officially confirmed.

What the Frozen 3 First Look Showed at D23

Entertainment Weekly reported that the footage shown during the D23 presentation includes Anna and Kristoff’s wedding and a journey that takes the group far from Arendelle. According to the outlet’s description, Elsa follows what appears to be an ice-like butterfly toward an aurora that opens into another snowy location.

Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, Sven, and Olaf then encounter a mysterious woman whose face is obscured. The butterfly approaches her hand before she crushes it, and the stranger addresses the sisters before Elsa responds by firing magic toward her. The clip ends before the confrontation is explained, leaving the character’s motives and powers unresolved.

The Frozen 3 new villain remains one of the biggest mysteries from the D23 reveal because Disney has not explained her origins, her connection to Elsa, or what she wants. The official Disney recap confirms only that the character is a villainess and that her powers rival Elsa’s, making the wording more specific than many fan theories circulating after the footage was shown.

The presentation also introduced new music. Kristen Bell, who voices Anna, and Idina Menzel, the voice of Elsa, performed a new version of “Frozen Heart.” Josh Gad, returning as Olaf, performed a new love song titled “Ooooh, Samantha.” Disney also confirmed that Oscar-winning songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez are returning for the sequel.

Frozen 3 Release Date and Creative Team

Disney confirmed Frozen 3 will open in theaters on November 24, 2027. The film is directed by Jennifer Lee and Trent Correy, with Christina Chen producing.

The return of Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez preserves another major part of the franchise’s creative identity. Their work helped define the musical sound of the earlier films, and their involvement confirms that original songs will again be a major part of the next chapter.

The Frozen 3 D23 footage did not answer the central questions surrounding the new villainess. Disney has not said where she comes from, why she confronts Anna and Elsa, or whether her abilities are connected to the magical forces explored in the previous films. Those unanswered points give future trailers and announcements room to reveal more without giving away the sequel’s central conflict.

For now, Disney is keeping its biggest new character under wraps. The studio has revealed enough to establish that Elsa may face an opponent whose power is on her level, but not enough to explain who the villainess is, what she wants, or how she fits into the larger mythology.

As Frozen 3 moves toward its November 24, 2027 theatrical release, the mystery surrounding the new antagonist is likely to remain one of the sequel’s strongest hooks. With Anna and Kristoff’s wedding, new songs, a journey beyond Arendelle, and a powerful new threat already teased, Disney has begun defining the next chapter while leaving its most important secrets unresolved.
